# How Much Weight Is Included in a Dumpster Rental?

October 19, 2026 Victory Dumpster Rentals Temecula Valley, CA

At Victory Dumpster Rentals, the 15-yard includes 1 ton, the 20-yard 2 tons, the 30-yard 3 tons and the 40-yard 4 tons. The 10-yard lowboy includes all tons, as long as the load is clean heavy material like concrete, dirt or rock with no trash mixed in. If a standard container goes over its included weight, the extra is billed per ton at the rate we give you in your quote.

## How much weight comes with each size?

Every quote includes delivery, pickup, the standard rental period and disposal up to a set weight. Here is that weight for each size.

| Size | Approx. dimensions | Weight included |
| --- | --- | --- |
| 10-yard lowboy: https://www.victorydumpsters.com/10-yard-dumpster-rental | 16' x 8' x 2' | All tons, clean heavy material only |
| 15-yard | 14' x 8' x 4' | 1 ton (2,000 lbs) |
| 20-yard | 14' x 8' x 6' | 2 tons (4,000 lbs) |
| 30-yard | 16' x 8' x 6.5' | 3 tons (6,000 lbs) |
| 40-yard | 20' x 8' x 6' | 4 tons (8,000 lbs) |

You can compare volume and pickup-truck loads for each container on our dumpster sizes (https://www.victorydumpsters.com/dumpster-sizes) page.

## What happens if I go over the weight limit?

Nothing happens on your driveway. After pickup, we take the container to the transfer station, where it is weighed. If the load comes in over the included tonnage, the difference is billed per ton. You get the per-ton rate in your quote before we deliver, and the final charge shows up on an itemized receipt.

So going over is not a surprise. It is a known rate times a known number. Our pricing page (https://www.victorydumpsters.com/dumpster-rental-prices) explains what a quote covers and the few things that can change the final total.

## Why can a dumpster be overweight before it is full?

Because the included weight and the container's volume measure two different things. A 20-yard holds 20 cubic yards. Whether those yards weigh a little or a lot depends on what you put in.

Fill a 20-yard with couches, boxes and old clothes and it will run out of room long before it runs out of weight. Fill the same container with roofing shingles or tile and it can hit 2 tons with space still left at the top.

That is why we ask what is going in when you call.

## How do I estimate the weight of my debris before renting?

We do not publish a pounds-per-yard chart. Real loads vary too much with moisture, packing and the mix of materials.

What does help is knowing which materials are heavy and which are light.

**Heavy for their size:**

- Asphalt roofing shingles, especially more than one layer
- Ceramic tile, mortar bed and thinset
- Plaster and stacks of drywall
- Wet yard waste, sod and anything soaked by rain
- Concrete, dirt, rock, sand and asphalt, which go in the lowboy, not a standard container

**Light for their size:**

- Furniture, mattresses and upholstered pieces
- Cardboard, packaging and household clutter
- Clothing, bedding and textiles
- Dry branches and trimmings
- Carpet and pad, as long as it stayed dry

A garage or house cleanout is mostly light material. A roof tear-off or bathroom gut is mostly heavy. Most remodels land somewhere in between.

The best estimate is the one you give us on the phone. Call (951) 386-2255 and describe the job: what room, what is coming out, roughly how much of it. If it is a roof, tell us the number of layers. If it is a bathroom, tell us whether the tile is going down to the slab. We will tell you which size makes sense and whether weight is likely to be the limit.

## When should I choose the 10-yard lowboy instead?

Choose the 10-yard lowboy (https://www.victorydumpsters.com/10-yard-dumpster-rental) when the debris is clean, heavy and inert. That means concrete, dirt and soil, gravel and rock, asphalt, block, sand and sod. Rebar can stay in concrete if it is trimmed within 2 inches of the surface.

Three rules matter here.

First, these materials do not go in our 15, 20, 30 or 40-yard containers at all, even in small amounts. Weight is the reason. Only the lowboy is rated for them.

Second, the lowboy has to stay clean. No household trash, wood, drywall, roofing shingles, yard waste or mixed construction debris. All tons are included only as long as no trash is mixed in. Brick can go in the lowboy, but it is not covered by the all-tons price, because clay can't be recycled into road base. Brick is billed by weight at $98 per ton.

Third, its walls are only about 2 feet high. That low profile is what makes it practical to shovel heavy material in by hand instead of lifting it over a tall wall.

If your project has both heavy material and regular debris, like a patio demo plus a garage cleanout, call us and we will work out the right setup.

## Questions we hear

**Does the 10-yard lowboy have any weight limit?** All tons are included as long as the load is clean concrete, dirt, rock or similar material with no trash mixed in.

**Can I put a little concrete in a 20-yard to save a second rental?** No, concrete, dirt and rock are not accepted in standard containers in any amount, so plan for the lowboy.

**When will I know if I went over the weight?** After the container is weighed at the transfer station, and any overage appears on an itemized receipt at the per-ton rate from your quote.

**Is it better to rent a bigger dumpster to get more weight?** Sometimes, since larger sizes include more tons, but for heavy debris the right container matters more than the biggest one, so call us before deciding.
